The Power of First

When we give God our first, we're declaring that He is first in our lives. Throughout Scripture, the first portion belongs to God—not because He needs what we have, but because our hearts are shaped by what we prioritize. Giving our first fruits is an act of worship that says, "God, I trust You more than I trust my resources." Rather than giving what's left over after everything else is paid for, we choose to honor God first. It's a practical expression of gratitude, faith, and dependence on His provision. When God has first place in our hearts, generosity becomes more than a financial decision—it becomes a reflection of our worship.

  • Honor (Proverbs 3:9-10 NIV)

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

  • Responsibility (Nehemiah 10:35 NIV)

We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of the Lord each year the firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree.

  • Trust (Malachi 3:10-12 NIV)

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the LordAlmighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
