Proverbs 3:9-10

We are to honor God by giving Him our first and our best. And this makes complete sense given all He has done for us. So first and best isn’t leftovers. Its not honor as an afterthought. Its not being willing to give Him seconds. Not after we pay bills; not after we buy that thing we have been wanting. First…and best.
Yea I know what you are saying. Haven’t we talked about this? Yes we have. Do we always have to talk about this? No…but Jesus did…A LOT. Because He knew the one thing in our lives that would hold us back and keep us enslaved more than any other, and thats money.
So how can giving something away be a great financial move?
The best illustration that I can use to answer this question, is to tell you to make a fist and try to grab something with it…I will wait. Yea I didn’t figure you could do it. So now imagine holding on to what God has given you with a clinched fist pushing back against tithing. Now imagine He is trying to give you something more…you guessed it, you won’t be able to grab hold of it.
So tithing is a great financial move because it not only reminds you to give God the first of what He has already given you, but it also gives you the ability to grab a hold of what He has for you because of your obedience.
Open hands in obedience is the best financial move that you and I will ever make.

- Have you had the conversation as a family on what it would look like if you began to tithe?
- If you already tithe, write down some ways that you have seen God stay true to His promise to provide for you.
